Vina was born in Iowa. She married John McConnel on Sept. 12, 1877, in Wayne Co., IA, officiated by Rev. J.B. Hill of the Methodist Church in Wapello Co., IA. They lived in Idaho for a time before returning to Iowa. After her father and his second wife moved to Colorado around 1886, Vina and John moved near them. They had seven children between 1878 and 1900. Vina died of influenza in 1918, as did her daughter Fannie.
